RICHMOND, Va. — August 13, 2026 — St. Mary’s Hospital School of Medical Imaging (SOMI) proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new location at 8555 Magellan Parkway, Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23227 on August 13, 2026, with a dedication ceremony marking a significant investment in the future of health care education and workforce development. The new 7,745-square-foot facility provides students with a modern learning environment designed to support academic excellence and hands-on clinical training. The building includes:

  • Two imaging laboratories, including one fully energized lab for realistic clinical instruction
  • Two classrooms
  • A dedicated procedure room
  • Student lounge and study spaces
  • Faculty offices and a conference room
  • Student reception area and lockers

The new facility was designed to enhance the student learning experience while supporting the continued growth of SOMI. The expanded laboratory space offers students increased opportunities for hands-on instruction, and the building has already enabled the school to increase enrollment by four additional students, with capacity for future growth.

The grand opening ceremony featured remarks from SOMI Campus Director and Dean of Academic Affairs, Jody Crane, and President of St. Mary's Hospital and the School of Medical Imaging, Bryan Lee.

During the ceremony, the new building was blessed in recognition of Bon Secours' faith-based ministry and commitment to compassionate care. Guests included members of the School of Medical Imaging administration, clinical and instructional faculty, alumni, current students and other supporters who gathered to celebrate this important milestone. A reception followed the ceremony to commemorate the occasion and recognize those who helped bring the project to fruition.

"The opening of this new facility represents our commitment to preparing highly skilled medical imaging professionals," said Campus Director and Dean of Academic Affairs, Jody Crane. "This investment enhances the educational experience, equipping students with the knowledge, skills and hands-on training needed to meet the evolving needs of health care."

St. Mary’s Hospital School of Medical Imaging has a long tradition of preparing highly qualified imaging professionals who serve Bon Secours and health care organizations throughout the region. The new facility reinforces that legacy by providing students with state-of-the-art educational spaces that reflect today's clinical environment while creating opportunities for future program expansion.
